Beijing 2008

This year Olympics will be held in Beijing. And Olympics fever is in the air.... exhibitions & mascots are all around town.....

Beijing 888 - 8/8/2008! (nice number huh? Well, Chinese loves number 8, it means prosperity!)

Too bad I didn't manage to go Beijing...so near yet so far (sigh!) China has since stop issuing visa to foreigners now.... I sure would like to go Olympics once in my life time...well, may be next Olympic in London then.....

The Ruins of St.Paul

It's HOT, HOT, HOT here.... 35 degree celsius today! Walking outdoor is like walking in oven, hot waves plus hot sun. Oh my, when is autumn coming please?

Anyway, I went sightseeing with Gigi (my Malaysian friend) the other day... HOT day too!

The Venetian

I was in Venice..... just kidding!!! I was in the latest Resort World in town called - Venetian, by it's name, you can tell it's a "fake" Venice (lol).... big project, I must said. Hotel + casino + shopping mall....it's huge!! (sorry for my earlier post saying there is no mega shopping mall here... well, this is one huge shopping mall here!)

I been to "real" Venice and took the gondola ride before, so I didn't take the gondola ride this time; besides i think the "feel" is different.... i mean indoor gondola ride is so...unromantic!!

Met a Singaporean friend there, he is the resident manager there now.... small world!

Four Season Hotel is coming up next to Venetian. Macau is booming! Internationally, I hope. Because now most of the tourist is from mainland China......

Birthday Karaoke

Attended one of my colleague's birthday, she is a local. Apparently the favorites night life for the locals is karaoke... hmm... not exactly my cup of tea. There is "bar street" here, favorites hang out area, but don't be fooled by the street name, because you can't find a bar here, but lots of karaoke!! Wonder how the name came from??

Picture 1: From the left, the cute girl wearing pink, she is another colleague - Gigi and she is a Malaysian too, from Sabah also.... and she is my partner for whatever, we always goes out together now.... The pretty girl in the middle is the birthday girl - Maggie, doesn't she looks a bit mixed blood? but she said she is pure Chinese.....

Picture 2: Dice game - it's a must game for karaoke.... guess it's the marketing strategy to boost more alcohol sales; because whoever lose the game got to bottoms up!! Hmmm... it is not gambling, but it is a game they called it : "liar" game, kind of like if you are good in lying and you can make the other players believe you then you will win the game...something like that....

Easy Evening

I took an easy evening walk around the central the other day and took some shots.

hmmm... please don't ask me the street name, they are either in Portuguese or in Chinese. I would not make a point to remember the Portuguese's name (aka can't remember them anyway!), and I do not know how to type the Chinese character here. So I can only tell you the last picture is the famaous "Casino Lisboa".

You see, Macau was under Portugal's colony before China took back in 1999. Those days Portuguese was the official language & even though it was the official language, but not many locals learn Portuguese at school....... funny?? I was told that only those who knows Portuguese can work in government sectors.

And some of the historic building is very Portuguese (very much like the history of Melacca!)

Sometimes I'll get to meet some Portuguese descendents here, mostly already mix blood with Chinese.... and they are surely good looking!! haha...

Hello Macau!

Here I am: Macau. A small city in between Hong Kong & Mainland China. Wonder why they called Macau-"The Las Vegas of Asia"? Well, I guess most of you know why.



Anyway, although I been to Macau some 10 years ago, this time round, Macau is different, more development of course. Compare to Hong Kong, it is much more lay back & slower pace, I feel it is very much like KK!



I like the food here.



Because of limited land here, most of the people stay in apartments here (like in Singapore & Hong Kong), and it is very small & expansive, well, at least the one I am staying is..... unless you can afford a bigger one!



There is no such thing as mega shopping mall here (hmmm, good, can save some money, hehe), Macau people go to Hong Kong (30 minutes ferry) or China (you can just walk across to China, it's that near!) for shopping. From what I know, they prefer China than Hong Kong, it's much cheaper & nearer I guess..... most of the people I know here goes to China whenever they are free, for whatever, it's like Londoner going to Oxford Street! So, I was advised to get an unlimited entry visitor visa (Malaysian need visa to visit China), otherwise I will miss out a lot of outing with the locals!
